ABOUT US

DE EN FR

Fête de la Musique Germany connects, advises, and supports the organizers of the world's largest music festival. Together with cities, municipalities, associations, cultural institutions, and dedicated individuals, we work to make music freely accessible to everyone on June 21.

The Fête de la Musique Deutschland and the Deutscher Musikrat — on whose initiative the "Tag der Musik" (Day of Music) has been celebrated annually since 2009 — have been joining forces since 2024!

"The Fête de la Musique is the largest music festival in the world — a powerful symbol of the connecting power of music, celebrated in over 1000 cities worldwide, including more than 180 locations in Germany. It's more than a festival: it's an international network that connects people, cities, and cultures. Through joint projects and creative exchange with partner cities around the world, a global soundscape is created anew each year. The Fête invites everyone — music associations, schools, cultural institutions, dedicated individuals — to take part, to be seen and heard, and to make their cities resonate."

OUR MANAGING
DIRECTOR

Sabine Busmann,
Managing Director of MusikZentrum gGmbH,
host organization of Fête de la Musique Deutschland.

"The Fête de la Musique Deutschland connects musical diversity, cultural participation, and community engagement — values that MusikZentrum Hannover also stands for. Since we took over the licensing office from Simone Hofmann in 2017, the nationwide network has grown continuously.

As MusikZentrum Hannover, we have supported musicians, event organizers, and cultural projects for many years, and we look forward to continuing to develop the Fête de la Musique in Germany together with the nationwide network."

OUR
PATRON

Anke Rehlinger,
Federal Government Commissioner for Cultural Affairs under the Franco-German Treaty, is Germany's central point of contact for France in the fields of culture and education.

"The Fête de la Musique is more than a festival — it is a resounding call for openness, diversity, and togetherness. At a time when political storm clouds are gathering, when exclusion and hatred are growing louder, music brings light, warmth, and connection. It knows no barriers, no origin, and no mistrust. Especially in times of societal uncertainty, we need these strong, positive images: squares full of music, voices from all over the world, people celebrating together — this is democracy lived in its best sense. The Fête de la Musique shows what Europe can be: a space for listening, exchange, and shared joy."

FROM THE CULTURAL CITY
OF HANNOVER TO THE WORLD

Melanie Botzki,

Head of the Cultural Management Staff Unit of the State Capital Hannover, she is one of the initiators and shapers of the "Kulturstadt Hannover" (Cultural City of Hannover) brand.

"The Fête de la Musique shows in a special way how music connects people — regardless of age, background, or life circumstances. It makes visible that culture is far more than an offering: it is an essential part of a vibrant, open, and diverse city life. It is precisely through its openness and low-threshold accessibility that the Fête de la Musique gives many people direct access to cultural experiences and invites them to rediscover culture in everyday life. Where people meet, culture becomes accessible to all and creates new connections between neighborhoods, generations, and life worlds. In Hannover, we are committed to thinking of culture holistically — as a space for education, inspiration, participation, and social cohesion. The Fête de la Musique makes it tangible how culture in public space builds community."

THE FOUNDER OF THE GERMANY NETWORK

Simone Hofmann,
Founder of the Germany Network

The cultural manager brought the Fête de la Musique to Berlin, laying the foundation for the music festival across all of Germany. From 1995 to 2017, the experienced cultural manager organized the "Fête de la Musique" in Berlin on behalf of the Berlin Senate. Between 2000 and 2017, she also volunteered for years to help build and expand the nationwide Fête de la Musique network.

A decisive milestone was finally reached in 2009: with project funding from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and support from the German Association of Cities, a nationwide special campaign was launched. Through a direct mailing to 600 municipalities, more than 20 new cities and municipalities were successfully won over for the music festival.
