Make Musik - Make Friends
The Fête de la Musique is part of a worldwide movement. The international network of participating countries fosters musical and cultural exchange far beyond June 21st.
One example is the project "Make Music, Make Friends": children aged 7 to 13 from different countries exchange musical video messages, learn about new music cultures, and forge international connections — united by the shared language of music.
"Together with my colleague Ruth Meisinger, I lead the Orchesterwerkstatt Linden at the Municipal Music School Hannover for children and teenagers between 10 and 16 years old. Our participation in 'Make Music, Make Friends' stayed with us far beyond the project itself and brought us a lot of joy.
The children chose their own piece of music, prepared their presentation, and took part with great enthusiasm. They were especially impressed by the contributions from our partner groups in Ghana, Turkey, and the USA. Their curiosity about other countries' music was so great that we regularly watched more videos from the international playlist over many months. This gave rise to fascinating insights into different music cultures, new instruments and songs — and always new conversations."
