WHY DO STUDENTS IN GREIFSWALD
ORGANIZE A FÊTE AS VOLUNTEERS?

"Volunteer work is very rewarding despite the effort and obstacles. The connections you build and the mutual support are a valuable experience I wouldn't want to miss.

Every year, the Fête delights many people in Greifswald, creating low-barrier, accessible culture and a space for coming together — something worth getting involved for."

This is the organizing team of Fête de la Musique Greifswald 2025.
Since 2007, the association GrIStuF e.V. (Greifswald International Students Festival) has been behind the Fête, putting on the event together with many dedicated volunteers, partners, and local institutions.

We asked student Kaja (center of the photo) what motivates her to volunteer for the Fête
de la Musique.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITMENT!

Amateur music is closely linked to volunteer engagement and forms an important foundation for cultural participation and social cohesion in Germany. Many musicians organize concerts, get involved in music clubs and choirs, participate in festivals, or perform at charitable events.

This voluntary commitment creates vibrant cultural spaces, strengthens local communities, and brings together people of different generations, backgrounds, and life realities.

Fête de la Musique makes this connecting power of music visible: people shape public spaces together, share musical experiences, and create encounters across cultural, social, and generational boundaries — open, free, and accessible to everyone.

That's why the Fête de la Musique Germany network also takes part in the nationwide campaign "Engagement macht stark!" ("Volunteering makes us strong!").

WHY DO YOU ORGANIZE A FÊTE DE LA MUSIQUE AS A VOLUNTEER ON THE ISLAND OF PELLWORM?

Donata is organizing a Fête for the first time in 2026.

"The initiative Insel, Lieder, Leute and the association Kulturhof28 organize concerts on the North Sea island of Pellworm. Since we work as a nonprofit and on a volunteer basis, the unpaid Fête de la Musique is a great opportunity for us to take part and offer musicians a space.

And the great thing is — the festival hasn't even taken place yet, and I've already made many wonderful new contacts during the organizing phase, so that great concerts will take place in the Kälberstall (calf barn) at other times too."

02
GET IN TOUCH

Each Fête de la Musique is organized independently at the local level. That's why application and registration procedures vary from place to place. It's best to contact the Fête de la Musique in your desired location directly. The local teams will inform you about all options and next steps.

03
MAKE MUSIC

Once everything is settled, it's time to take the stage! Share your music with the audience and become part of a unique day full of live music, connection, and great atmosphere.

Kutterscholle mit Speckstippe is a duo made up of Raphael and Robert, bringing their own poetic, humorous singer-songwriter tunes with depth to the stage, alongside newly interpreted pieces by artists such as Rio Reiser, Gerhard Schöne, and Gundermann.

Why do you take part in the Fête de la Musique?

The Tiny Wolves are an extraordinary children's choir from Bergen near Celle, where around 60 kids aged 8 to 12 perform well-known indie, pop, and rock songs together with their director Kristof Beuthner — bringing great emotional depth, energy, and a uniquely moving interpretation to the stage.

THE FESTIVAL OF AMATEUR MUSIC

Fête de la Musique stands for the joy of making music together. Its name comes from the French motto "Faites de la musique!" — in English, "Make music!" This very idea still shapes the music festival today. In English-speaking countries, Fête de la Musique is therefore also celebrated as "Make Music Day."

Fête de la Musique thrives on the people who get actively involved: amateur musicians, choirs, bands, orchestras, music schools, associations, and initiatives.

The potential is huge: around 16.3 million people in Germany make music in their free time. That's about 21 percent of the population aged six and older. This makes amateur music one of the country's largest cultural movements and the heart of Fête de la Musique.

Music connects people regardless of age, background, or social status. Many discover music-making through schools, music schools, choirs, clubs, or through family and friends. Children and young people are especially musically active, while more and more adults are choosing to learn an instrument or make music together.

Amateur music is closely tied to volunteer engagement. Millions of people organize concerts, lead ensembles, get involved in clubs, support festivals, or shape cultural events locally. This commitment is what makes Germany's diverse musical life possible in the first place.

Fête de la Musique makes this vibrant music culture visible. As an open and free music festival, it stands for cultural participation, community music, social cohesion, and cultural sustainability. Every year, it shows anew how music brings people together, creates encounters, and strengthens volunteer engagement in our cities and communities.

01
KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER

Most Fête de la Musique events take place outdoors. If it's sunny, remember sun protection, a hat, and enough water. If rain is forecast, pack rain gear or a light rain jacket. That way, you're prepared for any weather and can enjoy the music relaxed.

02
DRINK ENOUGH WATER

Music, movement, and summery temperatures can be tiring. Bring a water bottle or make use of the water stations on site. Drinking regularly helps you stay fit and focused.

03
BE CONSIDERATE OF ONE ANOTHER

Fête de la Musique stands for openness, diversity, and respect. Be mindful of those around you and respect personal boundaries. Discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate behavior have no place at the Fête de la Musique.

04
STAY TOGETHER

Arrange to meet up with friends or family, and pay special attention to children and older people. Agree on meeting points in case you lose sight of each other in the crowd.

05
COMFORTABLE CLOTHING,
STURDY FOOTWEAR

Viele Besucher sind mehrere Stunden unterwegs und wechseln zwischen verschiedenen Bühnen. Bequeme Kleidung und passende Schuhe sorgen für einen entspannten Festivaltag.

06
PAY ATTENTION TO ON-SITE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Organizers provide information on safety measures, traffic regulations, weather warnings, or program changes. You can also find current information on your city's or municipality's channels.

07
TRAVEL SUSTAINABLY

If possible, use public transport, bike, or go on foot. That way, you travel relaxed and help protect the environment.

08
DISCOVER MUSIC AND JOIN IN

Fête de la Musique thrives on participation. Discover new artists, visit different venues, and enjoy the diversity of music. You might even find your new favorite band along the way.

09
PROTECT YOUR HEARING!

Live music can be loud. If you spend extended time close to a stage or speaker system, earplugs can be a good idea. Short breaks in quieter areas also give your ears a rest.

Find your Fête de la Musique and become part of the world's largest participatory music movement.

Wander through your city and celebrate music!
